Lane County Released Inmate Records
A release record is an event record. It shows when one custodian ended or changed control over one person. It is not the same as a criminal-history summary, court judgment, or list of people confined now. Current evidence reports the former Lane County Jail closed, though a January 2025 directory still lists it. The sound local conclusion is to call the Lane County Sheriff and ask which jail actually accepted the booking.
The receiving jail may be in Finney, Scott, Ness, or another county. Its movement entry is the main proof of physical release or transfer. Lane County District Court can hold the Lane prosecution and the order that explains why custody changed. If a person moved to the Kansas Department of Corrections, KASPER becomes the state status source. A person on parole, post-release supervision, or probation is outside a jail or prison but may still have an active legal obligation.
The Kansas Sheriffs’ Association Lane County entry supplies the official-association contact used to start that placement check.
The directory capture confirms the local agency route. It does not establish that the former jail is operating or identify a particular receiving jail.
Lane County Release Types Explained
The exit label determines the next search. “Released” can mean return to the community, a conditional court outcome, completion of one term, or a handoff to another authority. The exact wording should be copied from the jail, court, or KDOC record.
| Release type | What it means | Next source |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | County custody ended while the case continues. | Receiving jail entry and Lane County court |
| Time served | The custodial term ended, though another duty may remain. | Sentencing entry and jail exit |
| Probation | A court sentence is served in the community. | Lane County court docket and supervision office |
| Parole or post-release | Prison ended but KDOC supervision continues. | KASPER and KDOC field office |
| Dismissed or declined | A case outcome may remove that basis for detention. | Court disposition and physical exit record |
| Transfer | Another agency assumed custody. | Destination agency or facility |
| ICE or federal hold | County custody ended while federal custody may begin. | ICE, USMS, or BOP route as applicable |
A transfer must not be described as community release. A person can also have more than one case or hold, so completion of one term may not end all custody. “Discharge” usually means a correctional or supervision relationship ended. It should not be substituted for parole, probation, or a jail transfer.
- Time served
- A custodial term has been credited as complete.
- Detainer
- A hold or request from another authority that may cause a transfer.
- Parole
- Conditional release under the Kansas parole framework for an eligible state sentence.
- Probation
- A community sentence imposed by a court.
- Discharge
- The formal end of the relationship shown by the responsible agency.
Lane County Release Record Fields
A focused booking-and-release record joins identity, intake, legal authority, and exit. Lane County does not publish a field dictionary, online retention window, or historical booking archive. Ask only for fields the custodian maintains, and ask which retention schedule applies when the event is old.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Full name and date of birth | Identity used for the booking. |
| Booking number | The key for one custody episode. |
| Booking date and time | When the receiving jail recorded intake. |
| Arresting agency | Which office made or delivered the arrest. |
| Charges and case number | The booked authority and court tie-back. |
| Bond type and amount | Terms recorded at the booking stage. |
| Release date and time | When that custodian ended the booking. |
| Release type or destination | Community exit, court action, or transfer. |
| Transfer agency | The authority that took custody next. |
| Booking photograph | An image tied to that intake, if maintained and releasable. |
The court register can add bond orders, dismissals, sentencing entries, probation actions, revocations, and discharge entries. It may explain the legal basis for release without recording the minute the jail door opened. Pair the court action with the physical movement record.
Request Lane County Release Records
Lane County provides a written open-records form. For a jail record, direct it to the Sheriff or the receiving sheriff that actually holds the booking, not automatically to the County Clerk. Lane County Sheriff is at 144 S. Lane, P.O. Box 478, Dighton, Kansas 67839, telephone 620-397-2828. Confirm the custodian and accepted submission method first.
- Identify the person with full legal name, date of birth, approximate booking date, and case number if known.
- Ask for the existing booking-and-release entry or custody-movement history for that booking.
- Name the desired fields, including release time, type, destination, and booking photograph when relevant.
- Ask for an electronic copy and a cost estimate before chargeable work.
- If material is withheld, request the legal basis and any separable public portion.
K.S.A. 45-218 requires agency action as soon as possible and by the end of the third business day. It is a response deadline, not always a production deadline. K.S.A. 45-219 permits reasonable fees. No verified Lane County flat fee was found for a release copy or photo, so request the estimate.
Lane County Release Record Law
The Kansas Open Records Act begins with a policy of openness in K.S.A. 45-215. K.S.A. 45-217 excludes jail rosters, court records, and police blotter entries from the definition of criminal-investigation records. That does not make every booking field public. Other exceptions, privacy concerns, security rules, and court restrictions can apply.
Kansas also recognizes release as a distinct record event. K.S.A. 22-4705 includes release after arrest without charge and release from detention among reportable events. K.S.A. 22-4701 excludes release and other custody-status changes from its defined criminal-history-record category. These rules support asking for the specific movement record instead of a broad history product.
Juvenile, sealed, expunged, and other protected matters need restraint. Public-portal guidance excludes many such records. If a document is absent online, ask the court whether it can be inspected at a courthouse terminal. Do not treat an old third-party copy as current public authority.
Lane County Expungement Effects
Expungement is a court process, not instant deletion from every operational system. Kansas eligibility and waiting periods depend on the event, offense, sentence, and outcome. The Kansas Judicial Council adult expungement forms are the current starting point. A petition does not prove an order was granted.
Once an order is entered, public access may change. Cached pages and commercial booking images can lag. An old mugshot should not be treated as proof that the underlying court file remains public. Arrest expungement and conviction or diversion expungement also follow different legal routes. Verify the live Lane County court status before describing the record.
Find Lane County Released Inmates
The best search follows custody in order. Lane County’s reported jail closure makes the receiving-jail step essential. Do not begin with an Oregon roster or a broad third-party list.
- Call Lane County Sheriff at 620-397-2828 and ask which jail accepted the person.
- Ask that receiving jail whether the person remains there. If not, request its release time, type, or destination.
- Search the Kansas District Court portal by case number or name, narrowed to Lane County.
- Use KASPER when the case may have led to KDOC incarceration or supervision.
- Use Kansas VINELink for participating county-jail status and future notice, not for KDOC inmates.
- Use BOP or ICE only when the record points to federal or immigration custody.
- When a portal fails, use phone, in-person, written-request, and court-terminal channels.
The official Lane County Sheriff page offers no recent-release feed, roster link, booking-photo gallery, historical archive, or advertised sheriff jail app. The Lane County 24-hour release path therefore leads with direct verification rather than an invented list. Released people normally leave current-custody rosters; the receiving jail’s movement record and later systems preserve the useful trail.
KASPER Lane County Release Search
KASPER is the Kansas Adult Supervised Population Electronic Repository. It covers adults who are or were in KDOC’s supervised population, including many people sentenced to the Secretary’s custody since 1980. Search by KDOC number when possible, or use legal name and compare all identity fields. A person who served only a county jail term may never appear.
| Search field or result | How to use it |
|---|---|
| KDOC number | Most precise public search key. |
| Legal first and last name | Try known spellings and verify identity. |
| Institution or location | Shows prison or supervision placement. |
| Earliest Possible Release Date | A changeable state calculation, not a promise. |
| Parole or post-release | Outside prison with active KDOC supervision. |
| Discharged | The displayed KDOC relationship has ended. |
The official KASPER interface is the state-prison and supervision starting point.
The capture identifies the proper Kansas system. Read the live status and date label narrowly, and confirm a time-sensitive change with KDOC or the displayed field office.
Lane County Court Release Check
Lane County District Court is the durable local case source. Search the Kansas District Court Public Access Portal and narrow to Lane County. A case number is the safest key. Review bond orders, dismissal entries, sentencing journal entries, probation orders, revocations, modifications, and discharge entries in date order.
The official Lane County District Court page provides the local courthouse route.
The court capture shows where local case access begins. A court order can explain why custody should end, but the receiving jail record supplies the physical exit or transfer time.
Lane County Release Supervision
Parole, post-release supervision, and probation are not interchangeable. Parole involves the Kansas Prisoner Review Board framework for eligible state sentences. Post-release supervision follows the prison part of many determinate sentences. Probation is imposed by Lane County District Court and may be handled through court services or community corrections.
KASPER shows KDOC parole or post-release status and a supervision location. The published Garden City Parole Office covers Lane County, but a person can be assigned elsewhere based on approved placement. Court probation remains tied to the Lane sentencing case. An absconder status means alleged noncompliance, not discharge. The dedicated Lane County parole and probation records separate these paths.
Lane County Release Notifications
Kansas VINELink is a person-specific custody and notice tool for participating county jails. It expressly excludes KDOC state-prison offenders. Search the person, compare identifiers, and note the source agency, which may be a receiving county rather than Lane. A released result should be confirmed through that agency’s movement record.
Notification methods may include phone, text, email, or web or app notice. Telephone registration uses a four-digit PIN. No result does not prove release because spelling, transfer, lag, and coverage can affect the display. For a state prisoner use KASPER. When timing is critical, contact the Sheriff or receiving jail directly.
The KBI registered-offender search is separate. It covers statutory sex, violent, and drug registration categories, not all Lane County released inmates. A registration result can show a community record when that law applies, but absence cannot prove detention, discharge, or lack of a case.
Lane County Federal Release Searches
The Bureau of Prisons locator covers federal inmates from 1982 onward and may show “Released” with a date. That ends the displayed BOP custody episode, not every possible state, supervision, or immigration matter. A federal pretrial detainee may instead be under U.S. Marshals authority and absent from the sentenced BOP population.
The BOP Inmate Locator is the federal prison starting point.
The capture demonstrates a federal locator result. It does not establish a Lane County booking or the person’s present location after BOP release.
ICE’s locator uses an A-number and country of birth or biographical details. It is mainly a detention locator, though official guidance says it can include releases within 60 days. A county release to ICE is a custody transfer. No official source found a Lane County ICE detention contract.
Lane County Release Search Sources
Choose the system based on the custody stage. A current roster and a historical release record answer opposite questions.
| System | Best use | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Receiving jail | Current custody and local release or transfer | Must first identify the correct jail |
| Lane County court | Legal reason, sentence, probation, disposition | May omit physical exit minute |
| KASPER | State prison, parole, post-release, discharge | Not every county detainee appears |
| VINELink | Participating county-jail check and notice | Does not include KDOC prisoners |
| BOP | Federal prison status and historical release | Does not resolve other custody |
| ICE | Current or recent immigration detention | No-result is not conclusive |
Getting Home After Lane Release
Lane County operates transportation from the government complex at 144 S. Lane. Its page says weekend service may be available by calling 620-397-5356. The service is not advertised as a jail-release shuttle. Confirm scheduling, eligibility, fare, pickup point, destination, and weekend availability before relying on it.
The Lane County Transportation page shows the local service contact.
The capture supports transportation as a lead only. The actual receiving jail may be outside Lane County, so confirm where pickup would occur.
Lane Release Property and ID
Lane County government offices share the 144 S. Lane complex. For property return or correction of a jail movement entry, call the Sheriff and ask which employee handles records and property. No published local page sets out the procedure. If an outside jail booked the person, that jail may hold the property.
For replacement Kansas identification, use the Kansas Department of Revenue service-location finder. Confirm what the current office and Lane County Treasurer can process. The shared address does not mean every credential service is available there.
Avoid Oregon Lane Release Results
Search engines often place Lane County, Oregon jail pages above Kansas results. Verify the state, Dighton address, lanecountyks.org domain, and 620 area code. Oregon pages often reference Eugene and Oregon agencies. They are the wrong jurisdiction for a Lane County, Kansas release.
This contamination can make a polished online roster look authoritative while answering a different county’s question. The correct local start is Lane County Sheriff in Dighton, followed by the actual receiving Kansas jail and Lane County District Court.
Lane County Release Facilities
Each facility or system below controls a distinct custody stage. Placement can change, so links are routes to verify, not claims that a person is held there.
The primary local question is who booked the person. After that, use the receiving jail for the physical movement, Lane County District Court for the Lane case, and the destination system for any later custody or supervision. This sequence keeps an outside-jail release, a state discharge, and a federal transfer from being collapsed into one event.
- Lane County Sheriff’s Office / former Lane County Jail: identifies the receiving jail.
- Finney County Jail: a documented receiving facility for at least one Lane arrest.
- Scott County Jail: a possible receiving jail that must be confirmed.
- Ness County Jail: another possible receiving jail requiring confirmation.
- Kansas Department of Corrections institutions: state incarceration, supervision, and discharge.
- Federal Bureau of Prisons institutions: federal prison status and release.
- Immigration detention system: case-specific ICE custody.
- Dighton law-enforcement contact: Lane Sheriff routing because Dighton contracts law enforcement.
